Jim Towey, the incoming president of Ave Maria University, is no stranger to either Florida or higher education. But in both arenas, he’s also no stranger to controversy. Towey, 54, named the next president and CEO of Ave Maria on Feb. 10, brings to the post a history in the public and private sectors that is freckled with both profuse praise and equally profuse criticism.
